Build It Magazine Interview with Jackson Moulding (Ecomotive) on Modular homes in the U.K

Ecomotive Director Jackson Moulding speaks to Build It Magazine on the recent win of NaCSBA’s “self-build on a shoe-string”.  The SNUG (aka Modulhus) design are a pre-fabricated timber module at the core of each home. Each modules internal space is 5m wide by 2.9m high, and as series of them connected alongside each other create a home, for example, four modules for a one-bed home or six modules for a two-bed.

Without a doubt, all of the six finalists offered creative solutions to a self-build home under £55K, yet it was the concept of Ecomotive’s controlled modular construction that impressed the judges.  The panel was made up of  TV self-build personalities, of Kevin McCloud (Grand Designs), Charlie Luxton (Building the Dream), George Clarke (Amazing Space’s) and Gerardine and Wayne Hemingway. (Red or Dead/ Hemingway Designs).  The judges also included RIBA self -build champion Luke Tozer is also one of the judges along with Lord Gary Porter, the former leader of the Local Government Association.

The judges wanted the Starter Home to work as a standalone or terraced property, but it could also be stacked to deliver a modest block of maisonettes or flats.  Ecomotive’s SNUG aka Modulhus was announced for as the overall winner at Grand Design’s Live.
