LaunchPad takes off in Fishponds, Bristol

For many people who are aware, Bristol is enduring a scarce supply of housing for it’s students; where the influx of people has left young renters in the city struggling to find affordable accommodation. This has also correlated with other issues in the renting market, such as a spike in rental costs and poorer living conditions; as over 80% of students in Bristol have reported issues with their accommodation at some point during their study at University. Which leaves the thought that the desperation for young renters results in an inelastic demand for a room of any condition due to the shortage of supply.

Launch-Pad may offer one of the solutions to these issues as it supports University students, and other young people who are in need of affordable shelter. The aim is to offer an option to the volatile renting market in the South of England. LaunchPad is a product of the work between the University of Bristol Students Union, 1625 Independent People and United Communities. The accommodation will provide it’s 31 residents with their own bedroom, including an en suite bathroom with a small kitchen facility, and a communal space for socialising.

LaunchPad is located in Victoria Park, Fishponds.

How it offers sustainability

LaunchPad will be one of the first mid mass developments to not offer any onsite parking for cars as residents will not be allowed to park onsite as part of their tenancy agreement, with instead a secure onsite cycle parking. In addition to this, the mobile space of the 22 square metre shipping containers will provide an effective use of space in such a limited environment of availability in Bristol. The lease of the project will last over 10 years where there are possibilities for relocation that come with its practicality for developers.
