When renovating my 1000 year old house what struck me most how they used the materials to hand. When I needed to fix the ceiling I only needed to walk down to the river beds to collect the reeds which were used in the same way as lathe is used.

Horse hair was also used to make the plaster stronger it really works well with lime plaster you will have a ceiling that will last centuries. The horse hair I got from the local stable. No need for high energy glass fibre.

My point is look for cheap local sustainable solutions which are often free.
